I am feeling the movement that Eric and the shwood team are making over there in Oregon. Never could afford the huf hats and gear back in college, and by the time I could, I had moved on. I have always had the utmost respect for Keith and his team at Huf. They always made the right collabs for their brand. This goes together like peanut butter and jelly. Check out how Eric takes a broken skate board and turns it into the freshness below.
The first thing you need to know is that Oakley has one of the freshest headquarters I have ever seen. It’s reminiscent something out of Starship Troopers.
Meeting up at the company’s headquarters in Foothill Ranch, CA, CloudRaker sits down for a talk with Brian Takumi, Creative Director of Special Projects and Surface Graphics at Oakley. Takumi relates some of the things he’s encountered while working for the company over the years and also speaks a little bit about his background, and how growing up in Los Angeles and being exposed to streetwear still influences him today. According to Takumi, Oakley takes its production very seriously, not only making sure that the design, technology and performance of each piece is up to par but also owning its own manufacturing instead of importing and exporting from factories, making it much more efficient to handle production changes. Hear more from Takumi in the video above.
I always like contest that give away things that I think are cool and are very easy to sign up for. This one does both. The video focuses on Eric Singer, creator of shwood at their factory. It goes over the inspiration and materials used to make these cool glasses. The Canby Wayfarer shades (pictured above) are their most popular for an obvious reason. They have managed to maintain the classic style which the wayfarer is known for, while giving it the distinctive look of wood. Well done.
As far as the contest here is how you sign up. Other brands are Contego, Field Notes Brand, and Wm. J. Mills & Co.
